Experience is received every time enemies are defeated in the first game. The experience gauge is displayed in the bottom left corner whenever some experience has been gained.
For every ten enemies of a type defeated, Tomba gains an experience level for that type. The max level of experience per type is ten, which is required to use the elemental jewels that gives Tomba special abilities. There are three types of experience in the game: Pink, green and blue. Whenever the player grabs a foe to throw him away, one of these experience bar slightly fills, depending on the foe.
Types of experience
Can be obtained by leaping on Koma Pigs and red Kokka Birds, and maximized by using Mighty Fish Food in Ol' Pond. When Tomba has reached level ten, he can obtain and use the Jewel of Fire found inside the chimney of the Haunted Mansion.
Some good places to grind for red experience is in the Forest of 100 Flowers, due to the large amount of Koma Pigs, and the Forest of All Beginnings where two Koma Pigs in the background will respawn if Tomba goes back and forth between the foreground and the background.
Can be obtained by leaping on spiders in the Watch Tower or winged Koma Pigs in Lava Caves, and maximized by using Mighty Fish Food in the room with the pipe in the Haunted Mansion. When Tomba has reached level ten, he can obtain and use the Jewel of Wind found next to the nest in Phoenix's Nest.
Can be obtained by grabbing Butamushi at Wobbly Wharf, blue Kokka Birds in the Haunted Mansion, enemy fishes in Trick Village, and Needlegators on Phoenix Mountain, and maximized by using Mighty Fish Food in the Masakari River. When Tomba has reached level ten, he can obtain and use the Jewel of Water found underwater in Trick Village.
